Open-source bridges for the Agent you already use
DeskFamiliar can now give the same expressive 3D desktop body to the Agent you already use.
Codex and Claude Code connections ship with DeskFamiliar. When the corresponding Agent is installed and has a local session, choose it in the Agents panel. No adapter code or DeskFamiliar rebuild is required. DeskFamiliar observes local activity and translates thinking, file work, commands, and tool use into character actions. It does not replace the external Agent's chat, tools, approval flow, or permission system.
The shared bridge behind those connections is agent-neutral, MIT-licensed, and open source. Every integration maps its native events into a small, versioned character-action language, so the desktop shell and the 3D character do not need to know which Agent produced an event.
Developers can connect another Agent in either of two ways: contribute an adapter for built-in support, or create a Windows local process plugin. A process plugin is a folder with a manifest.json file and any program that writes one JSON object per line to stdout. It can be written in any language and does not need to know Godot or DeskFamiliar's internal WebSocket.

Custom bridge plugins run as ordinary local processes and are not sandboxed, so install only plugins you trust. DeskFamiliar asks before first launch and asks again if a plugin's command, arguments, or location changes.
The complete built-in companion experience powered by Hermes Agent and DeskFamiliar Cloud remains ready to use. External Agent visualization is an optional connection, not a requirement.
