A familiar on your desk

Give your AI Agent a body on your desktop

Hermes is the included mind; DeskFamiliar is the body — a 3D companion that reads, writes, waits, and reacts. Codex and Claude Code connect out of the box, and developers can add any Agent through the open-source bridge.

An independent project — not affiliated with Nous Research or the official Hermes Agent team.

Tool calls you can see

Instead of hiding an AI agent behind a chat box or a plain activity log, DeskFamiliar brings the agent's work onto your desktop as a living visual presence.

Idle

Calm presence while nothing runs.

Reading files

Opens a book when the connected Agent reports a file read.

Writing files

Casts a writing spell when the connected Agent reports a write.

Waiting for confirmation

Looks to you when the built-in Agent asks for approval.

Completed

A clear, gentle finish.

Error

Visible feedback when something goes wrong.

The goal is simple: you should be able to glance at your desktop and understand what your agent is doing.

From tool call to character action

  1. 01

An Agent performs an action or tool call.

  2. 02

An adapter or bridge translates the event.

  3. 03

DeskFamiliar sends a shared character command.

  4. 04

The 3D character plays the matching action and returns to idle.

Tool calls you can see

Permission-aware built-in Agent

The built-in Agent uses read-first defaults, asks before file writes and commands, and never offers an all-access mode.

Questions?

What is DeskFamiliar?

DeskFamiliar is a 3D desktop AI companion that gives Agent work a visible, expressive body. Hermes Agent powers the complete built-in experience; Codex and Claude Code connect out of the box for character visualization; developers can connect other Agents through the open-source bridge.

Which AI Agents can I connect?

Hermes Agent powers the complete built-in companion experience. Codex and Claude Code work out of the box for local character visualization when those Agents are installed — no bridge code or DeskFamiliar rebuild required. Developers can connect any other Agent by writing an adapter or a Windows local process plugin for the MIT-licensed open-source bridge. External Agent connections visualize activity; they do not replace that Agent's chat, tools, approvals, or permission system.

Is DeskFamiliar free?

The base app is free: the desktop client, the default characters, and the core work loop. Binding your Steam account also gives the built-in AI a free quota that refreshes every month. If you need more, one-time quota packs are available through your Steam Wallet.

Does the built-in AI require an API key or a third-party account?

No. The built-in AI runs on DeskFamiliar Cloud and only needs your Steam account binding. Nothing else is required to use the complete built-in experience. Codex, Claude Code, and custom Agent bridges are optional local connections and follow the setup and account requirements of those tools.

What data does DeskFamiliar Cloud store?

The gateway retains necessary Steam account details, quota and transaction records, and security metadata such as IP addresses. It relays the conversation context and tool results needed for cloud inference without retaining their bodies as content records. The model provider has its own retention rules. See the Privacy Policy & AI Use Notice.
